2010-0819 | Environmental Health CHOG Exercise

  • Scenario Overview
    • The August 19, 2010 Environmental Health CHOG exercise is designed to improve safety and enhance the capabilities of agencies within Riverside county when responding to emergencies involving radioactive materials.  It will begin with a discussion of radiation basics and safety (e.g., time, distance and shielding, alpha, beta, gamma, ionizing v. non-ionizing, radioactivity, radioactive decay, half life, etc.).  A briefing of isotope identification and radiation survey equipment available to county responding agencies will be given.  This will lead into radiation survey techniques including “dirty bomb” contamination scenarios.  Additionally methods and practices of proper decontamination, exposure control and emergency medical issues will be discussed.
